Director's Award

The Director’s Award, established by Dr. Louis A. Picard while he was Director of the Ford Institute for Human Security, aimed to support small non-profits in Western Pennsylvania that had a connection to GSPIA. Eligible organizations proposed policy-oriented research, program development, and/or policy dissemination activities focused on a human security issue. Organizations’ annual operating budget could not exceed $100,000.

Each year, an award of $4,000 was shared between two local non-profit organizations. “The award was seed money for new ideas or projects,” said Dr. Picard. The Director’s Award was an expansion of the collaborations the Ford Institute undertook with local non-profit organizations, during those years.

The program was discontinued after 2013.
