Information Session Ford Institute Working Group: Countering Violent Extremism in Africa

The U.S. Department of State, the Department of Defense, and the Agency for International Development have developed programming to counter support for violent extremism in Africa. Yet challenges of effective program targeting and implementation have affected the ability of the programs to fight the influence of Boko Haram and Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb among citizens.

  • The working group will examine programs intended to aid populations vulnerable to extremist violence, with particular attention to efforts aimed at strengthening the rule of law through women’s participation in the justice system.
  • This work will be conducted as part of Diplomacy Lab activity with the State Department and our efforts will be organized to develop a report relating to our findings by the close of the fall term.

Light Refreshments will be served.
